About Birdwell: Hand cut and sewn in Santa Ana, CA since 1961 Built so well your grandchildren will wear them An iconic and classic design perfected over 55 years In 1961, beach mom Carrie Birdwell Mann transformed her small Southern California home into a sewing room and store, launching what would become Birdwell Beach Britches with one simple item: a pair of hand-sewn, double-layer nylon board shorts. It was one of the first California businesses specializing in surf wear, making her living room one of the earliest surf shops. Her first employees were her husband and son, and her first customers were lifeguards in Newport Beach. In 2014, thousands of britches, waves, and stories later, the Birdwells entrusted us with keeping their family tradition alive and kicking. We no longer sell out of Mrs. Birdwell’s living room, but our Santa Ana factory is still a place for families to gather. Sons stop in to buy shorts for the fathers who introduced them to the brand. Mothers bring their budding watermen and women to buy their very first pair of “Birdies.” We share the same attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship as Mrs. Birdwell set forth so long ago. That’s why every pair of our board shorts is still built by hand, the way they always have been — some by seamstresses that have worked with us for over 40 years. And that’s why we’ll repair any defects at no cost until the fabric won’t hold a stitch. "Quality is Our Gimmick" is more than our slogan, it’s a commitment we honor with every product we build. Buy less stuff, by buying better stuff.

arrived as representedComfort, stretch and light. Excellent qualityOverall ok, but I expect more from a company charging so much. The ties are too short, and they don’t hold. I had to do a double throw on the initial cross in order to get them to hold. Then there was not enough to double knot it in order to make sure the tie didn’t come undone. The material the ties are made of just don’t have enough grip, they are too smooth. These do not fit through the size they are small around the waist. If you were a 34 I'm not sure 36 will fit maybe a 37 will. I'm not rolling on the dice on these anymore cuz they just don't fit. I returned what I bought and went with a different brandSize 38 was to small. All my trunks are 38 for over a decade. Photo is new Rip Curl 38s and the Birdwells. Need to get 40 to fit. Not fat at all. Bummer I love them and look great.Perfect fit after over indulging during the holidays. The stretchiness made for a comfortable afternoon in the pool!Birdwell=bestOr my body shape is. Bought the smaller size and felt like I was wearing see-through shorts. Went up a size and they are slightly to big. I really like the shorts and material, but they don't fit "just right".
