I'm going to recommend a country music musician (singer) that you probably haven't heard of. That musician is Dawn Sears, a Nashville based "girl singer", who died several weeks ago after a long battle with cancer. Dawn never achieved commercial success in the country music industry. However....in Nashville, with all the surrounding real musicians, both the vocalists and the instrumentalists, she was recognized as outstanding. Dawn was married to a local sessions fiddler..and for about the last 20 years she was Vince Gill's primary accompanying and back up vocalist. Additionally, and you may not know this, a big group of local sessions musicians get together once a week at a small bar in Nashville to just do a little unrehearsed music fun together. They call themselves the Time Jumpers. They do a lot of western swing in addition to everything else. Good group! The caliber of musical skills of this group is amazing. Vince Gill sits in frequently. And...Dawn was a regular with them, serving as their primary female vocalist.Ok, it is with great regret that I only discovered Dawn about a year before she died. Sure wish I had known about her before. But, I'm now going to share my recently acquired knowledge of Dawn with you so you too can (if you are a country music fan) maybe appreciate this wonderful musical talent that is available to you still, through her CDs. She only had three CDs, I believe. Amazon has three listed. Dawn's songs are mostly originals, although she does cover a few oldies. Also..if you want to hear the excellent Time Jumpers (Dawn is singing on some of those cuts also), grab that titled CD. They're great, especially is you enjoy some of the older western swing type sound.Dawn has her own style when she sings. However, I think I hear some cross between Janie Frickie, Reba McEntire , and maybe even a little Julie London ballad sound there sometime. This is pure music done by Nashville's finest, not over produced, not over mixed. Listen for the occasional steel, fiddle, piano, or guitar break. Real music by real accomplished musicians.
